MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL: THE CURRENT CHALLENGE, A BRIEF OF ACHIEVEMENTS
Starting on January 2nd, 2015, Joseluis Rios has occupied first the Training Manager position on JW Marriott Mexico City Santa Fe Hotel until September 18th, 2017, with several projects concluded successfully, like the implementation of the JW Symphony of Service Training program, delivered to share and culturize the staff member with the Brand service promise, and on2016, the Re-Branding program to implement the company´s new vision for the Brand worldwide. After that, on September18th, 2017, was appointed as Learning and Development Manager for the Sheraton Mexico City Maria Isabel Hotel, the “Flagship” property of Marriott International in Latin America when get the important duty to permeate a 520-Associates-hotel with Marriott´s Core Values and Culture after the merger with Starwood Hotels& Resort Worldwide with the highest performance and compliance scores in Mexico since the first year. Due the commitment and critical eye showed on the starting months, on January2018, was also named Quality Assurance Manager, conducting the entire strategy for the hotel, and restructuration of the function, with a permanent program of audits, evaluations and feedback to improve results, achieving on the first year an6.02% increase of the Global Hotel Goal.
But the scores are not the only field strongly developed. On February2018, and backed up by the Mexico City General Managers Board, was appointed Operative Board Chair person, for the YCI program for 2 years. Besides, on April2018, Joseluis was recognized as the Global TakeCare Champion of the month, the Company´s program of Wellbeing for the strong participation among their pairs around the world. 2018 was a year filled of new challenges and projects, because on September also was name “Serve 360 Champion” for Mexico country Area, conducting and supervising the Impact to Community and Corporate Social Responsibility program working directly with the Mexico Business Council and Marriott International´s Head Quarters.
Perhaps the highest awards came on2019, recognized with the Human Resources Excellence Award of Innovation for all Caribbean and Latin America area. On 2019 also drove the TakeCare Wellbeing program and got the new highest award of Healthy Workplace, achieving the Titanium Level on the first try.
In addition to the roles currently performed, during the health contingency due to COVID19, Joseluis had the opportunity to participate in several projects at the regional level, such as monitoring and controlling the movements of staff in hotels in Mexico, coordinating volunteer activities in different markets in the area, collaboration in the launch of the Learning Lounge for CALA, among other activities, where perhaps the most remarkable is the incorporation of Marriott in Mexico in the Ranking of Top Companies Mexico for 2021, being the first occasion in which this recognition is achieved as a group at the regional level, obtaining the 3rd place of the Best Companies to work for at the national level, the 1st Place of the "Breaking Friendly" Companies that promote and guarantee a balance between the personal and professional life of its associates, and having appeared in the select ranking of the Best Companies for women in Mexico, planned the logistics of gathering the documentary material of almost 50 hotels, as well as the application of the survey to more than 6500 associates.
And after all these awards, orchestrating an intense dissemination campaign on Social Media to attract more followers to the talent attraction pages of properties in Mexico, and continue to attract more and better candidates for our teams.
The previous professional opportunities started as part of an Internship program, on the Le Meridien Cancun Resort & Spa(July-December, 2010), when he has the duty of get the Gold Medal for the Green Globe certification for the hotel, and achieve for the very first time, the Platinum level on its first intent. After the this principals accomplishments, he gets the option of being part now hot the crew as Training Coordinator (November, 2011), now whit the new owners administration, participating on the property change of name and concept, creating the Sandos Cancun Luxury Experience Resort. A few months later, got the opportunity of being appointed as Training & Development Manager for the Sandos Caracol Eco Experience Resort, when he has the opportunity of operate the Training and Social Responsibility program of the only ECO RESORT in Mexico (April, 2012 - June, 2013.) With great memories and a filled portfolio of new skills, he decide to start a new professional challenge, now on the Iberostar Hotels & Resorts family (July, 2013 to August, 2014) in it´s largest complex, Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf & Spa Resort (3200 rooms), leading the training program for around 3600 staff employees, implementing new processes to improve the Human Resources department performance, and after 6 months, gets the option of now be in charge of the Corporate Social Responsibility Area for all the properties along Mexico.
Before to start the journey with Marriott International, he decided to take one last dare on the Mayan Riviera with Occidental Hotels & Resorts since August to December, 2015, as Complex Training & Development with the main task of accomplish the Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare for the both hotels in town , the Royal Hideaway Playacar and Allegro Playacar. Once upon finished this particular duty, he decide to move to Mexico City, and that's when the story with Marriott International began.
Thanks to a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on Quality Management and a specialty in Human Capital Management from Tecnológico de Monterrey, Joseluis was able to start his professional development in the area of Human Resources and Learning, in addition to getting involved in the area Quality Assurance, with the perspective of matching the training offered, with techniques that allow bringing the desired performance closer to the real and changing expectations of the guests. In addition, during the confinement for COVID19, Joseluis accredited the Certification in Hospitality Management offered virtually by the Florida Atlantic University, to have more up-to-date knowledge about new trends and practices in the industry.
Also, besides Spanish as mother tongue, it can be counted within the studies of Mr. Rios, special classes of English for business in the English Language of Canada in Toronto, and private classes of Portuguese and German, besides mentioning self-taught classes of Italian and Mandarin.
Among the skills with greater dexterity developed by Joseluis, stands out the use of graphic application software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and professional quality video editing that you can find on his YouTube channel.
